opt?

I am a phd student, but want to quit ( so tired of
research and teach). The international officer in my
school told me that I am not illegible to apply for
OPT now, because I got my master last year, which
passes the 60 days grace period. Does anyone know
anything about this? I am going to with a company. As
H1 for this year is used up, can I work with F1 status
if the company gives me offer? Or can I apply for CPT
and work on that status to wait till Oct., when I can
apply for H1? I am so desperate now.
