Xiaobaitu and experts: H4 and 485 pending

Xiaobaitu: I am working on H1B now and on I-485-pending at the same time.But I am not the primary GC applicant. My hu*****and is the primary applicant. If I quit or get laid off, do I have to change my status to H4(my hu*****and is working on H1 and I-485 pending too)? Or I am still keep the lawful status(AOS?) even though I don't change to H4? If I choose not to change to H4, any impact on my I-485 case? Thank you.
