He'd better try his best to find a job here until he get GC. Reasons:

1. His son and wife won't be able to get gc if the primary application is denied.
2. 485 is meant for people who stay in US to wait for their gc, if he go back china and stay there, he'd better refile Consular Processing in Guangzhou.
3. suggestions are: just hold on, he'll find some jobs here.
