Have not experienced such situation before. I did not find the any law or regulations (maybe i did not search thoroughly), saying you can not do it.

If your future employer is willing to provide you a permanent (tenure track) job offer letter, then i think you should try it.

If you are qualified, you may try Eb1-a also (can be self-sponsored), you can it at any time.
