It definitely will be difficult to get a change of status to F-2 approval after an I40 has been filed upon your behalf, but not impossible. USCIS will want to evidence of your continuing strong times to home country, just as a consulate does when one applies for a vistior or sturdnet visa. With evidence of such strong times (property, family, job offer) the change of status may be approved.
