How long it takes to get GC?

I am in Los Angeles now. From H1b to Green Card, the whole process will take 4 to 5 years.

My friend told me, that it's much quicker to get green card from some other place, for example, Chicago. Is that true? If that's the case, I am thinking to change my job and move to those areas.

How long it take you to get green card from H1b?
