Help:入境时候给的停留时间

I wonder how the customs officer decides 入境时候给的停留时间.

1) Do they have our 156 form in computer? Since on that form, we indicated how
long we would like to stay

2) Or it is totally depends on the letter to Customs Officer that my parents
handed to them

3) Would they give us 6M instead of 3M? We asked 3M in the 156 form.
