It should be fine. When I try to open a bank account 5 years ago, I was told I can not because my SSN was used by somebody else. They said I need to get a verification letter from social security adminstration. Then I got a letter to show that number is only assigned to me, and faxed to one of the "three credit center" (sorry, I do not knew the exaxtly name). And I just got my I-485 approved, to my case, the name check is done in one year, but maybe case by case. Anyway, do not worry too much the theft of SSN. Good luck.
