Please help,OPT will expired 10/02/06, H-1B has still not approv

Please help,OPT will expired 10/02/06, If H-1B is not approved by that day, will I be out of status? My H-1B application was ted on 07/21/2006. What should I do? Should I change to H-4? Any help is appreciated.
