SOS: H1 转 F1 --- I am going crazy now

I ted application for changing H1B to F1. Received the letter
yestereday:

Notice to Student

The attached I-20 is returned to notify you that you have
been granted nonimmigrant status or other related benefit
based on your I-20. The stamp on the I-20 indicates the
date and place you were admitted or otherwise granted
status as well as the duration of stay allowed.

This I-20 is for your records. You must comply with all
the terms and conditions of the nonimmigrant status.


在 I-20 上， 有一个 Stamp, "Approved Sep 08 2006".
还有一个 "NOTE: YOU MUST OBTAIN A NEW VISA TO REENTER
THIS COUNTRY IN YOUR PRESENT STATUS"

I-20 上还有 "RECLASSIFIED TO F1 AND STAY AUTHORIZED TO D/S
SSC 0009"

我的问题是

1） 我现在是什么身份？ F1 还是 H1
call 了CIS， 两个不同的人给我不同的解释， 一个说我现在
是 F1， 但是 school does not start until Jan 2007， 所以
我必须离境， 申请签证再进来， 或者去学校
另一个人告诉我我的 F1 won't be effective until Jan 2007
我现在还是 H1B

2） 现在到底可以做什么？ 还能工作么？
没有办法和批件的人联系上， 他们让我写信去问， 那得等到
什么时候呀？
