Is my I-94 valid for re-entry to the US?

I have an I-94 attached to F1 approval, with 'duration of status' on expiration.

Can I come back from Canada within 30 days with just my passport and the I-94? Will the officer ask for I-20 ?
Is there any way to go around if they do?
Desperately need your help, thank you.
