about green card and H1b

I will have my first H1 which starts from Oct. I am told that it takes more than 5 years to get a green card.
For the first job, if I quit or am fired by some reason after I work for more than two years, does this mean that I can not apply green card? since H1 can work for 6 years and after that I have to go back to China for two years(for second job, only have 4 years which is not enough to get a green card).
I need your help. Thank you
