H1->H4 during 485 pending

My wife and I are both H1B.
Our I-485 is pending (greencard application from my job). We both have AP and EAD approved.
Now she decides to quit her job and stay home.
Does she need to file I-539 to change to H4?

She might later use EAD to work, and invalidating the H4 status.

But is it still legally required to change to H4 in her case?
