EAD or/and H1 renewal question

Here is the situation:

I am in I-485 pending status. I entered US using AP last Nov (I-94 stamped as parolee). My EAD expired in March, 2004. I just sent out the EAD renewal application. My current H1b visa expired in Feb. 2004.

Questions:
1. How long is the INS processing time for renewing EAD now?

2. Should I get my H1B renewed so I can work until my EAD extension is approved by INS?
