Questions about I-485 receipt

My hu*****and submitted his I-140 (EB1-1) and I-485 in Sept. 2005. His I-140 was approved in Novermber 2005. We just got married in May 2006. I submitted my I-485 on May 23 by USPS and NSC received the mail on May 24 ( by checking the track number). However, I have not received the receipt for 5 weeks. The USCIS has not even cashed my check. So is that normal for such a long delayed process? We called the customer service last week and were told that we may need to file the I-485 again. Is that necessary?
