Is it realy help by asking senator for 485 name check--see insid

My I140 sent in 2003 (NIW) and approved in 2004. I485 was sent in 2004 and has been current for long time. Called service center and got reply say my background check has not been completed yet. Some people say you can contact senator for help, is this really working? Has sombody actually gotten it by doing this? Thanks for you help!
