I-797 Priority Date, 请教我见和假博士

My I-140 was approved recently after 4 months. On the I-797 approval letter, there is a "Priority Date" which is half year before I-140 and I-485 was filed. And i just check the status of TX center, the current I-485 processing date is 09/01/2002.

My question is what does this Prirrity mean and what is relationship between "Priority Date" and "Receipt Date"?
