If you submited I-485

1. if you already submitted I_485 and your case is still far from final approval then you can staty unemployed for a while. You have to find a job before I-485 REF or interview. Usually, for NIW, they require employer letter to prove you are still work in same field.
2. you can't apply for student visa anymore after you applied for I_140. In general, you'd better find a job quickly. If you were not student when you applied for NIW, USCIS unlikely will agree with that you still serve for NI
3. don't worry about moving the case. It seems like NSC does all I_485 now.
