ask xiaobaitu about my EAD

Our I-140 was approved by end of last year, and I-485 is pending. I am holding the H1-B, but I want to apply the EAD to do a new job and quit my current job. I wonder that I can use EAD without changing current H1-B to H4, and what status I should be under the EAD.
