First Job Apply for Green Card - Need Help

I've been working for 3 years and my company agreed to sponsor me greencard. However, they told me they have to use the experience before this job to apply for greencard. I have a computer science master degree and no other experience before this job. Is it true I can't apply for greencard unless I find another job and use first job as experience?
