question about the 2nd fingerprint for 485

I just got the notice from USCIS that I need to do the 2nd FP at the end of this month. The 1st one I did was in last March. My qustion is:
This 2nd time FP means that my background check hasn't finished yet or it means that my 1st one has expired before my 485 gets approved?
