Yes, if your I140(EB2) got denied then you are out of status when your OPT expire. You can file petition for H1B for yourself if you are working. You can choose to work based on H1B ONLY or file another green card petition based on your employment. So, you can cover each other.

H4 with I485 EAD is OK before I140's result comes back. Once you got denied, then your EAD is shaky.
