It really depends on your conditions and maybe luck when you apply for visa. The best case I know is multiple-entry up to the date on I797. If you live close to the border, it will not affect you too much. You can benefit from Automatic Visa Revalidation to go back and forth. The only trouble is, you need to renew your I94 constantly if your I94 issued is for 3 months.
