Get the appoval notice. If a new I-94 is attached, CIS allows you to stay but not to work during the GAP in the US, which I doubt. Otherwise, you have to leave before the end of August to get a H-1B visa outside of the US and come back. In 2004 and prior, CIS allows F1 or J1 holders who have a GAP in status to stay during the GAP. The policy has been changed since last year. There is nothing at this point you can do to handle the GAP unless you'd like to file another H1.
