You should be fine if you are NOT working in some sensitive industries and had never been out ot status and/or had not criminal convictions.
But you will have to wait there for the background results. And if your visa app. is declined, you lost your status immedietly and must go back to your home country to re-apply. Unless you have another valid visa on your passport, which I seriously doubt.
