your status is legal here once you file I-539 before your F1 expires and H4 approval.

I don't know the exact name for the status, maybe it is waiting status? But I am sure you are legal to stay here.

should no trouble. Don't scare yourself. you can prepare everything in 2 hours by yourself if you have all the documents I listed...
