Not until he graduated in 2004. That is after visa application in Mexico.
None of us has been denied visa before and we thought that should be safe for us to apply visa in Mexico. We are lucky because his I-94 is as good as before. but for someone else on that day, they were not that lucky. 2 of them got denied and both of them came back. But their I-94 is 2 week effective, allowing them to come back and pack up to leave this country. One of these 2 got it fixed at local INS, with support from her school. Another one left U.S. and I don't know what happened to her later. That was a scary day. But it did teach us something. First, love is the most important thing. Second, future is unpredictable for a a foreigner in U.S. It is possible that we have to pack up one day and leave.
