my father- and mother-in-law came to USA in 2001. They brought my nephew (my brother-in-law's kid, 4 year old) with them to USA. We don't even provide any single document for the kid, yet he got the visa without any problem from Guangzhou. Unlike you, both of us were students with F1 at that time.
