H-1B after 6th year extension after I-140 approved

I-140 was approved on Dec 28, 2005 and 6th year of H-1B will expire in April 2006.
PERM was filed on 8/28/2005. Does anybody know whether H-1B can be extended? Based on some resource, it is said H-1B can be extended on 3-year base. Is it correct? If you know something, please help. Thanks.
