Don't tell them anything about your application of 485.Just keep your I94 and I20 current. Have a supporting letter from your department.Show them when you come back to USA to the officers at the boarder.If everything is smooth, they may let you in after they inspect it.If they need more, they will let you get into a small room and wait, and then check your I20,passport, I94, ask you to take picture and fingerprint.

This is what happened to me at Windsor after Christmas, not sure about any other boarders.
