Trip to Canada

We were landed immigrants of Canada in 2000, only stayed for a year and then came to U.S for other opportunities. Our current status are H1/H4/I-485 pending.
Can we make a short trip to Canada without any visas from Canada? We will drive in our vehicle. I am not sure if we can get into any trouble as we no longer live in Canada. Will they take away or landing papers? We plan to show the Canadian port our U.S documents, i.e, I-485, H1/H4 status/APs..
