Need help urgently!

Hello,

I was bron in Wuhan and got my H1B from Canada. In this Dec, I will have a business trip to Shanghai. Should I apply for my H1B visa back in Shanghai or Beijing?

It usually takes two buisness days to get H1B visa in Beijing and Shanghai. My passport will be kept in US embassy during this two days. Is there any way that I can board airplane in China without passport?? (my Chinese ID was expired in 2004).
