EAD should be useful if you are 485 pending with 140 approval. If your 140 pending too, you would have a risk with a possibility of rejection of 140. In other words, h1 is the first if you are I-140 pending too. But you would be laid off soon for sure, of course, you have no options to apply an EAD first.
