Above responses are completely wrong, theoretically. You do not have any responsibility for the bill unless you do want to pay for it. You bill is your bill, others are others, no matter who. You can forward your mother-in-law the bill and ask if they can pay. You may also send the hospital a letter state that you already forward the bill to your mother-in-law and give out the address. That's it. Remember, here is America.
