hospital bill

Hi:

My parents in law visited us last month, now they went back to China.

When they were here, my mother in law cut her hand and we sent her to the nearby hospital, the nurse there used some special glue to seal the cut. The whole visit is just half an hour.
Now we received the bill of $900 from the hospital, it addressed to my mother in law cause she is the one who signed all the documentations when she is in the hospital.

My question is: do we have to pay the bill? what kind of bad affect it can cause?
