If you tell them you are now in USA, your case will be improved. I had the same situation: I applied for Canadian immigration in 1997 in Australia and I was told that I needed to wait for 9 months to do an interview. In 1998, I came to USA to do Postdoc and then I asked Canada Consulate Sydney, Australia to transfer my application to USA. About three months after my file transfer, Canadian Buffllo Consulate informed me to do medical exam and no interview was needed any more.
