valid passport to enter cha/hk

hi, all

we are going back to china in Dec for about three weeks, and my LG's passport is expired in April, would he have problem entering china? we will flight to HK first....

the post office said renew passport need 2 - 6 weeks.........hopefully we could make it if that's case. thanks for any info.
