能这样无限制延的 premise is : You will continue to have a employer that sponsors your H1B until you can file I-485. If you are laid off and cannot find any job to file H1 transfer, you lose H1 non-immigrant status (unless you can change to H4). And without a pending I-485, you also lose legal status when you lose non-immigrant status if remaining in US.
