I understand you. Based on the similar reason, my faimily did not go back to China until our green card is approved. I sincerely wish that you can get an approval befor 10/1. In case that does not happen, as far as I know, AP is quite safe if you have never been out of status for over 180 days. You can stay at home as long as the AP is valid (for a year). Do not worry too much, your green won't be denied.
