While submitting 485, if you still maintain legal status of F1, you would still be F1 even if 140/485 are rejected.

Maintaining F1 means you do not use EAD to work, do not use advanced parole document to travel. Since the chance of getting F1 visa is also low, you do not have much chance to travel back to US on F1.
