Can I go to Canada w/o AP?

I am on H-1b status. If I have submitted I-485 and then need to go to Canada, do I need to apply for Advanced Parole or I can 30-day return policy to reenter US?

If I go to Canada without AP, will that be viewed as automatic abandoning the I-485 petition?
