Why don't you ask your lawyer whether your LG will lose his F-1 status if your 140 and 485 are denied?
If he won't use EAD and AP, he can still keep his F-1 status. But I am not sure whether 485 denial will invalid F1.If not, then concurrent filing will do no harm to both of you.
