Plz Help: from Canada to USA

Hi Everyone,

My case is that I have an expired H1B visa that I got from the USA consulate in Toronto. Then I changed my job and now I am still on H1B visa. I have submitted the Labor Certificate application through RIR(Have not gotten anything back yet). I am a Canadian Permenant Resident. My home is in Canada, but I work in USA. So I commute on weekends.

My question is: I plan to travel to China from Canada and then come back to Canada this fall and stay in China for 3 weeks, but I am afraid that if I do not have a valid visa from USA consulate, I will not be allowed to go back to USA to work. I know there is this 30-day rule for H1B visa holder, but it is only limited to travel between USA and Canada or between USA and Mexico, right? Once I leave the north America, this rule will not be good to me, right? Especially I have submitted the RIR application.

Any info will be greatly appreciate!!!
