my 2 cents:

1. Make sure your company will resubmit your h1b app next Apr 1 with premium processing. 2 weeks later once you knew you are approved, life will be much easier and you still have 1.5 months toward your OPT expiry.
2. Options for gap between 6~9:
a. now that you got the h1b, considering this as a vacation time, go back to where you were and relax. Get a visa based on your h1b approval, reenter USA as early as possible or as you wish.
b. if you figured out a way (need to verify with a lawyer) to stay in USA safely and financially viable, you can work for your company as a volunteer. But don't expect your company will pay you DURING THIS PERIOD.
c. start to work on applying for Canada PR asap. Then hopefull staying in Canada can be an option for you as well.
