请问Perm和绿卡可以自己办吗

请问Perm(labor certification)和绿卡可以自己办吗? 我不想请律师了，我在大学做statistician，H1签证。另外我和我老婆都是H1，能否个各办各的再到I485的时候file两人，这样每人就有两份申请是不是更保险呢？请有经验人指导一下
