Overlapping OPT and H1B

My OPT was effective from May 2004 to May 2005, but my H1B became effective in January 2005. So for the purpose of social security tax and MediCare tax, what status should I claim for the period from Jan 05 to May 05? Did I need to pay those taxes for that period? Thanks a lot.
