PERM and Green Card

Employer will sponsor me to apply PERM and at the same time H1B to be safe. Now I am confused about the difference between PERM and Green Card.

My understanding is PERM is one way to get or one category of GC. I don't know for sure.

If I was approved PERM, can I travel back and forth without visa? Can I change employer without losing my status?

Anybody can help, I would apprecite it a lot. Thanks.
