need some help

Male chinese gets into US by H1-B or L-1 visa. If he gets married in US with a female greed card holder, can he adjust his status in US? Or does he have to keep his current valid H or L visa for staying in US? Probably how long does it take to get his green card? (suppose it's long way to go for female to get US citizenship)
