urgent questions

Hi:

I currently work for an university. I just get an offer from a private company. The company agreed to apply H1B for me. I have some questions:

(1) When can I start to work legally for the company? I heard that I can start to work as long as the company submit my application.

(2) what is the procedure for quitting H1B job?
