I used Priceline.come once and made a mistake on the date. I called back and asked the staff if I could change the date, and they let me do that. You'd better call them and ask for advice.

It's really a case by case situation. And I suspect that you can upgrade to a better hotel, but might not be able to downgrade to a lower cost hotel.
